Embossing plates for L’Auto-Neige Bombardier
Object
Around 1940
Set of metal embossing plates bearing the name L’Auto-Neige Bombardier, Valcourt, Que. The text “Pat. CAN 1937” indicates the year of the Canadian patent for the B7 snowmobile. That same year, Garage Bombardier changed its name to L’Auto-Neige Bombardier. The set includes a positive and a negative plate. To emboss metal, these plates are placed on a hydraulic press, and a sheet of metal is slipped between them. Pressure is used to form the raised letters, which are then painted white. This embossing can be found on the engine door of most snowmobile models.
