Florida Overland Express model train
Maquette
Circa 1995
Here is a model of an ambitious project to implement a high-speed train in southern Florida in the late 1990s. It was conceived by Bombardier Inc., in partnership with GEC Alsthom, as a physical representation of the Florida Overland Express (FOX), a modern and rapid transportation system.
The model comprises 2 detachable parts—one for the engine and one for the passenger car. It’s primarily made from wood, with a few plastic components hinting to a design that was futuristic for its time.
Despite its promising start, the FOX project was abandoned in 1999. This model remains today, serving as evidence of a vision that never made it from the design table to reality.
