In 1951, Bombardier launched its R-series snowmobiles. The “R” stands for roues (wheels), while the “12” refers to the number of passengers. The reference to wheels is due to how these vehicles featured interchangeable wheels and skis for versatility, making them well equipped to brave any season.
According to L’Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée’s manufacturing records, the R12 snowmobile in our collection was made in November 1954. It was originally blue, and its 115-horsepower Chrysler Industrial 251 engine allowed it to reach speeds up to 72 km/h. This snowmobile has a load capacity of 907 kg (2,000 lb). It’s a true testament to an era marked by innovation and fascinates mechanics enthusiasts to this day.
