Wooden ski mould
Machine-tool
Circa 1960
This mould was used to shape wooden skis for Ski-Doo® snowmobiles from 1960 to 1961. The wood must be bent to achieve the curve in the skis. The planks are first placed in a steam box, which acts like a double boiler to humidify them. Afterwards, they are set up on the mould and left to dry so the curve takes its final shape. Six planks could be installed side by side on this ski mould. Out of all Ski-Doo® snowmobile models, only those from 1960 and 1961 were sold with wooden skis.
