Wooden ski mould

Circa 1960

This object is a mould used for shaping wooden skis for Ski-Doo® snowmobiles between 1960 and 1961. To achieve the curve of the skis, the wood must be bent. The planks are placed in a steam box, which functions like a double boiler, to humidify them. Afterwards, the planks are installed onto the mould. As they dry, the curve takes its final shape. Six planks could be installed side by side on this ski mould. Only the Ski-Doo® snowmobile models from 1960 and 1961 were marketed with wooden skis.
