Turret lathe

Machine-tool

Around 1940

Here is a modified turret lathe that Joseph-Armand Bombardier used to machine solid wheels for snowmobiles. The wheel is attached to the modified mandrel (rotary part used to secure the wheel), and the operator runs the motor to make it turn. Levers are included to move the metal cutting blades. This lathe allows for several types of cutting and threading operations on the same machine without moving the wheel. The turret lathe is operated using a strap fastened to a rotating shaft, which is suspended from the garage ceiling and connected to a motor.
